Classroom to Food Market Pipeline (CFMP)

The Classroom to Food Market Pipeline (CFMP) allows teachers to share the lessons of an outdoor garden and more from the comfort of up to four classrooms throughout the school year.

The CFMP Kit comes with a step by step instruction booklet with pictures, teacher training (either in person or telecommuted), and all materials except water bottles and scissors.



BG-Logo-285The CFMP has students divide into teams using water bottles to grow in class up to 8 different vegetables, fruits, herbs, and/or spices for monthly harvesting. The growing techniques are simple and can be done at home even for those living in apartments using seeds and other materials provided in the CFMP Kit. The CFMP has three different Levels that cover Nutrition & Marketing, Profit & Loss, and Investors while teaching different techniques for growing food indoors.

BG-Logo-285Harvests can be given to a class pet, wildlife rescue group, animal hospital, or pet store to feed small animals like turtles, rabbits, and hamsters. Occasionally we’ll create images to document The Journey from Classroom to Food Market at your school beginning with students planting seeds and ending with harvests being eaten by animals. crest-cfmp-285The harvest data is used to decide the winning team within the class for each monthly harvest based on weight. The data can also be used in optional games & activities like the Food Growing League (FGL) where classes compete with other schools across the state.

crest-cfmp-285The top 5 teams in each class go up against the winners of a different class each month. The CFMP Kit makes it possible for entire grade levels to participate by having classes take turns planting and harvesting each month in a relay race against other schools growing the same thing.


BG-Logo-285The CFMP has been designed to compliment existing curriculum from 3rd-12th grades (especially science and math).  Fortunately, teachers don’t have to worry about losing valuable instruction time to an outside program.  Once setup, it requires just 30 minutes twice a month to plant and harvest and just 5 minutes once or twice a week to water.   As “Classroom Farmers,” students have a great opportunity to learn indoor gardening skills.

crest-cfmp-285When there is free time, students can take advantage of the CFMP’s optional games and assignments to get a hands on education of how food growing businesses operate (see below). These games, activities, and assignments can be customized to help teach Math and Reading lessons of the instructor’s choosing. Program training can be held in class with students, just teachers, or telecommuted if distance is an issue. crest-cfmp-285We rely on Sponsors of our Food Growing League (FGL) to help get the CFMP into the schools that need it most (Title I, Food Desert, etc.). Schools with available funds are more than welcome to purchase kits so their students can also participate. We also work with PTA’s to use the CFMP/FGL as a fundraiser.

CFMP Level I: Nutrition & Marketing – Students learn how easy it is to grow different types of microgreens inside their classroom or even in their room at home.  Level I also lets students see the business side of things with the chance to design artwork for print and online promotional materials.  Learn More
CFMP-II-Logo-wB-i-150CFMP Level II: Profit & Loss – Students go beyond microgreens in Level II by growing cherry tomatoes, root vegetables, and more.  Entrepreneurship is further explored with another card game plus more optional assignments covering the nuts and bolts of running a business (gross margins, product surveys, prototypes, and basic accounting).
