Cone Elementary vs Sugarloaf Elementary vs Stokesdale Elementary
This is the first series of match ups of the new Food Growing League (FGL). We’d like to thank Cone, Sugarloaf, and Stokesdale Elementaries for participating. Dillard Middle is being moved to a separate division (NC1B) due to weather/scheduling issues. Thanks also to Bulldog Printing for helping sponsor the 1st Round.
Nearly 200 students in 10 Classrooms using the Classroom to Food Market Pipeline (CFMP) program from 4 Schools: Cone Elementary, Dillard Middle, Stokesdale Elementary, and Sugarloaf Elementary make up the participants of this debut season of the FGL.
Because Sugarloaf’s entire 4th grade and Dillard’s entire 8th grade are competing, each classroom is divided into Class A, B, C, & D to identify them. Both the single classrooms from Cone and Stokesdale are also listed as Class A.
The Competition Video for this 1st Round will be posted in late January/early February after all classroom harvests have been completed.
Following their December Training Session, 5th Grade AIG students at Stokesdale Elementary planted their first seeds of the season on Wednesday, January 3rd thanks to the sponsorship of Bulldog Printing.
In two weeks, their beet microgreen crop will be ready to harvest.
Beets are one of the three cold weather seeds selected for this extra cold winter season.
On Wednesday, December 13th, 5th grade AIG (Academically or Intellectually Gifted) students at Stokesdale Elementary began building their 3 Bottle Top Portable Garden Mini Bins (PG3’s).
The students will add soil and plant seeds the first week of 2018.
