Invest Collegiate Middle wins the 2018-19 Spring Season Food Growing League Championship

Charlotte’s Invest Collegiate Middle took the top spot with a 4-0 record to win both their Conference B Title and the overall Food Growing League Spring Season Championship with the tallest basil plants.

Hendersonville’s Sugarloaf Elementary won the Conference A Title and Pleasant Garden Elementary received first place for both the number of plants sold at 45 and most money raised with $200 going towards their school’s technology fund.

Congratulations again to the winners and special thanks to all the students and especially the teachers who made this season possible.

We’ll see everyone again for the Fall Season October through January when schools will be vying for the best microgreen harvest by weight.

It’s finally here, the 2018-19 Food Growing League Spring Season Championship. Started in February, students have been growing their basil plants for 3 months now. See pictures of what they’ve grown and find out which classes had the tallest harvests in the video, podcast, and scorecards above. The first round of the Spring Season is all about basil with 8 schools across North Carolina vying for the tallest crop and the most Customer Surveys in the Bonus Round. Schools participating this Spring  Food Growing League include Sugarloaf (Hendersonville), Cone (Greensboro), Pleasant Garden (Pleasant Garden), and Stokesdale (Stokesdale) Elementaries in the BSLA Conference and Leesville Road (Raleigh) & Invest Collegiate (Charlotte) Middle Schools along with Eastern Wayne High (Goldsboro) and Ayden-Grifton (Ayden) High in the BLSB Conference.
